About Us
Mission Statement
From long ago, my dream
was to create a woodworking environment which provided a unique and
pleasurable atmosphere for designing and building “one-of” fine
furniture, both traditional and contemporary.
In addition, I wanted my
personal work studio to double as a hands-on classroom for sharing what
I have learned over many years of university teaching.
I especially enjoy taking individuals with no background in
woodworking and teaching them the skills to tackle any furniture
project of interest. Priority is placed on instructional
expertise so that every participant leaves with a comprehensive
understanding of principles as well as hands-on skill development.
I also feel part of my
mission is to help preserve a some-what dying art. With
almost all high school “shop” classes having been replaced with
technology courses, techniques and mechanical skills of past
furniture-makers never make it to a once larger audience.
Certainly technology has given us wonderful new opportunities, but it’s
no match for the satisfaction I receive from making or teaching others
to build fine furniture.
Who Should Attend My Workshops
YOU … if you have a sincere interest in learning how to make fine
pieces of traditional or contemporary furniture, regardless of your
present knowledge or skill level in woodworking. Beginners
are more than welcome! That means if you have absolutely no
knowledge and experience in woodworking, you’ll do fine! Be
sure your first investment is in yourself to acquire knowledge and
skills before committing time and money on tools and equipment you
don’t know how to properly use.
Why You Should
Attend My Workshops
IF you want to experience fact and fun-filled exercises,
demonstrations, and hands-on experiences, this is the place.
IF you’ve never had any formal instruction, this session provides you
with 35+ years of experience in teaching furniture-making skills,
including a life-time of tips, tricks, and visual aids specific to
building fine furniture. Besides … you’ll end up with a nice
project to take home!
Location
My
workshop is located about 20 minutes south of Glasgow, Kentucky on
ten acres of property overlooking scenic Barren River Lake.
Glasgow
Kentucky is considered to be in “South Central Kentucky” and
is
located approximately 100 miles south of Louisville Kentucky (1-1/2
hours) and about 90 miles north of Nashville Tennessee (1-1/4 hours) on
Interstate 65 (I-65). Bowling Green Kentucky, home of Western
Kentucky University and the Corvette
Museum, is located 35 minutes from
the workshop. Mammoth
Cave Kentucky, hosting over a
million visitors annually to its cave systems, is only 25 minutes from
the workshop. This central location makes it convenient for
driving to workshops or, if you prefer, securing overnight
lodging in the Glasgow-Bowling Green area.
